Hilltop Yoga!

I could not resist putting this fun image from the new Namaste stamp set on top of a hill at sunrise! I fell in love with this cute and quirky stamp set the minute I laid eyes on it! The images are so quick and easy to color!

I've put together a short video showing how I created my card. You can watch it here:

Harmony: Pond Scene Card

Hello and welcome to the blog; it's Rick back with you again today to share with you a card I created using the Harmony Stamp Set.  I wanted to create a card that reminded me of a Koi pond, so that's exactly what I did.  You may think that this was really hard to achieve but actually it really wasn't.

Harmony Scene Card by Rick Adkins

To start off my card I simply had to stamp out the image from the Harmony Stamp Set a few different times in different directions.  I just needed to fill up my A2 card front with this beautiful fish.  Because I knew I was going to be doing some glazing with my alcohol markers to achieve the look of the fish under water.  I stamped them each time in an alcohol marker friendly ink.  Once I had all the fish that I wanted on my card front stamped out I could then start the coloring process.

When the fish where all colored and the alcohol markers had completely dried, I could start the glazing process.   All glazing means is you take a transparent or semi-transparent media and apply  over your first application of color.  The result is a rich layer of color that can change the tone of value of the color underneath.  Renaissance artist used this technique a lot to mix their paints to get the vivid and sometimes iridescent hues you can see in their paintings.  As you can see with the fish on my card it gives the illusion that they are actually under the water surface.

Once I had all the coloring complete I prepped the card front with my Cottontail Embossing Powder Tool and stamped the sentiment from the Harmony Stamp Set in an embossing ink.  I then covered the sticky ink with gold embossing powder.  Once completely covered I used my heat tool to heat set the embossing powder.  After the embossing powder had cooled I took my You've Been Framed Dies (I will tell you that this die set is my most used die set in my craft room.)  and cut out the inside panel.  I used the next to largest of the rectangle dies to cut the center out.   I then poked out all the little dots that didn't come out on their own, and then placed a piece of gold foiled cardstock behind this layer to create a mat.  I attached the outside piece from my design onto my card front, this piece fit my A2 size card.

I then placed the matted card front in the center of my card base using just a little adhesive. If you wanted to pop up this layer with some Scrapbook Adhesive 3D Foam Squares that would give you more dimension on the card and look absolutely fabulous.  To finish off my card I added a few of the Clear Sparkle Enamel Dots (another staple in my craft room) to add a little bling to the card.  There you have it my crafty friends, how I created this gorgeous Harmony Pond Scene Card.  I hope that you have a fabulous and safe weekend.

Silly Rainbow Sheep? Yes please!

Hi friends!  Today I have another for you using The Rabbit Hole Designs newest release.  This stamp set is fittingly called Namaste.  These silly sheep are definitely striking a pose. I love their goofy faces while they are doing so.  I realized I hadn't created a rainbow themed card in a bit so I colored them in a rainbow color scheme.  I just love rainbows.  Don't they just make you smile?

This being a clean and simple card, I thought it was ok to go a little crazy with the colors but this would be really cute as a black and white card as well.  Maybe coloring them all white with one black sheep.  We all know black sheep have more fun.  :)

I challenge you to recreate this. Make sure to tag me @craftwithme101 and The Rabbit Hole Designs on Instagram if you do.

Quick Springtime Birthday Card

Hello crafty friends, it's Rick back with you again this week to share a springtime birthday card with you.  This card actually came together super easy.  Especially with the help of the Deco Flower 6 x 6 Layering Stencil Bundle from The Rabbit Hole Designs.   If you have not seen this cute set of stencil and the floral background that it creates you are missing out.

The Deco Flower 6 - Layering Stencil Bundle comes with the six layering stencil to create the floral background pattern that you see on my card today.  But it also comes with a coordinating die to cute out one of the flowers.  You can actually cut out any of the flowers from the design using this one die.  Which opens up the possibilities for so many more projects.

Each stencil is numbered and it's actually more easy to line them up than you may think.  I made about four different backgrounds in about an hour.  And could have made more if I didn't have to come in to cook dinner.  I cut this panel down to a 3 3/4" x 5" and popped it onto a mat layer cut from black cardstock (cut at 4" x 5 1/4") and attached it to a standard A2 size card base.

To finish off my design I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Mindful Magnolia Stamp Set onto a piece of white cardstock in black ink.  I trimmed down the sentiment into a smaller strip and matted it with a layer of black cardstock before attaching it to the center of my card.  Then all I had to do was add a few of the Matte White Enamel Dots sprinkled around the card.

And there you have it, how I made this super quick springtime birthday card.  I hope that you give this new stencil a try.  I do have one piece of advice to share with you.  I did find it much easier to ink up using the Bitty Bunny Blending Brushes instead of the larger Cottontail Blending Brushes, just because of their size.  I would highly recommend pick up a few of them when you order this stencil bundle.  You can thank me later.

Happy Crafting
