Crabby Blue Crab

Hello crafty friends!   Do you have a favorite caffeinated critter from the Rabbit Hole Designs?  I do, mine is the Caffeinated Crab!  I think he is so darn cute and today I am sharing my Crabby Blue Crab with you.

This photo shows I have stamped the crab image in a light brown ink.  You'll see there is not a stark of a contrast between the stamped crab image and the alcohol marker coloring. I call this soft-line coloring  This is very close to a no-line coloring technique.  A no-line coloring technique is when you stamp your image in a much lighter ink color and as you color your stamped image  you will not see the lines you initially stamped.  There are specific no-line ink colors on the market, you can use a clear pigment ink or light beige or tan that you can barely see. They will nearly disappear as you color the image.  You will find that it gives your stamped image a much soft blended look.

Let's take a look at the images and the differences:

A - traditional stamped image / stamped in black ink and colored with alcohol markers
B - No-line stamped image / stamped in a beige ink and colored with alcohol markers
C - soft-line stamped image / stamped in a soft brown ink and colored with alcohol markers
All very different looks you can create.

For the background, I use the Drop It stencil choosing muted green, muted red and muted purple oxide  inks to stencil the background.  Afterwards, I dried the stenciled card front using my heat-gun. I could then add my oval stenciled layer (you can create a simple oval stencil with paper and an oval die).  By drying the the oxide inks, you set the 1st layer and when you add your second layer you see first image peek through as a soft fade.  You need to use a lighter colored ink on top.

After the oval was dry (with the help of a heat-gun) I replaced the stencil masking off the top area.  I used clear pigment ink  with embossing powder to create the sandy beach.
I used the sentiment from the Perfectly Blended stamp set and added it to the card front just above the crabby blue crab, using  adhesive foam squares on both.

Here are the products I use to create my card:

Drop It Stencil   6" x 6" stencil

I hope this inspires you to try a new stamp and color technique. Remember it does not have to be alcohol markers (that is my preference),  you can use any type of coloring medium such as colored pencils, watercolors, and other types of pigments to color your image.

Sorry I Was Crabby!

Good morning Rabbit Hole Fans and welcome back to the blog!
It's Lisa here with you today and I have a fun layered card using the Caffeinated Crab stamp
with a sentiment from the SoFishticated stamp set as well!

Here's the card recipe:
  • Start with a white A2 sized card base
  • Trim black card stock to 5 1/4" x 4" and glue to card base. Trim patterned paper to 5" x 3 3/4" and glue to black panel. Trim another piece of black card stock to 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" and glue to patterned paper.
  • Trim white card stock to 4 1/2" x 3 1/4" and stamp image all over making sure to stamp off the page in random places. Adhere stamped panel to 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" piece of black card stock already glued in place.

  • Cut a 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" piece of white card stock and glue a small triangle of your patterned paper from above to top corner. Color and cut Caffeinated Crab and pop up on white panel. Place white panel on black panel measuring 2" x 2".

  • Stamp sentiment from SoFishticated on to a speech bubble die cut and place over crab with foam tape.
  • Stamp #crabby from the Caffeinated Crab set in the lower corner of your stamped panel.

I love the layered look of this card and the red, black and white color scheme.
That tired crab looks so funny stamped randomly all over the white panel.
I'm so glad you stopped by today!

Blue Crab- with Katie

Howdy!  Katie here today.  I have an encouragement card today that has a few puns in it that gives it just a teensy bit of humor,

Get it?  Blue Crab is sad...and holding a shell?  Lol, hopefully you find that silly but encouraging. Here is how I made it:

  • I started with the background.  Die cutting the sand, palm trees and fronds from a Lawn Fawn die. I added some dots to the sand with a brown Copic.
  • Next I added this cloudy paper, I chose that because it also symbolizes a rough day.
  • After that, I stamped the crab from the Caffeinated Crab set on Copic friendly paper and colored it like a blue crab.  I fussy cut it out and removed the coffee cup and donut.  I die cut the shell and set both aside.
  • I die cut the Sorry sentiment in blue and added some gel highlights.
  • I stamped my sentiment from the By The Shore set.
  • Lastly, I put all the parts together.

I hope you like this card and of course I always appreciate you stopping by and commenting.  Have fun shopping in the store! ;)  You are always welcome to stop by my blog as well- KBStamps.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Good morning Rabbit Hole fans, I hope you're having a good week!
It just so happens that today is my 50th birthday so I thought it only
appropriate to make a birthday card.
I thought it would be fun to incorporate a bunch of the caffeinated
critters on my card.  Putting party hats on their heads just made
me laugh since they don't look like they are in a party mood.
It's been a rough week for me so it's kind of appropriate that these
guys aren't smiling.
All in all though I really like how the card came out, the rainbow
letters really stand out against the black and white background.
Here is a list of all the caffeinated critters used on my card:

Thanks for joining me today for my birthday, I hope you enjoyed
my card, these caffeinated critters really can be used for any
type of card you want to make..... just change up your sentiment.

Faux Sand for the Caffeinated Crab with Video

Welcome back to the blog Rabbit Hole fans!
It's Lisa here with you today from Oh So Cute By Lisa
and I have a fun card and video to share with you
that features a new technique I recently learned.
I have a way to turn plain kraft card stock
into faux sand!  It's so easy to do and so much fun!
I wanted to used the Caffeinated Crab on my card today and I thought
that the perfect backdrop for him was some beach sand!
I even filmed a short video to show you how easy the process is.

The card construction is pretty simple.
I stamped and watercolored 3 tired crabs and used my scan n cut to cut them out.
Once I had the crabs ready to go I also cut out 3 seashells to layer behind them.
My background cover die had lots of slits in it which was perfect for
slipping my crabs behind.  I stamped #crabby next to each crab and the card was done!

Here is a closeup of the sand so you can see the detail.

See... easy peasy card construction but the fun part was the sand.
Here is a short video to show you how you can make your own!
You can watch it here or on YouTube.

Crabby Beach Shaker

Good morning  Rabbit Hole Designs fans and
welcome to the blog!
It's Lisa here with you today and I'm sharing my
second guest designer project for March.
I had a lot of fun creating a beachy card for you with some
actual Florida sand and one very tired crab!

For my card I used the newly released Caffeinated Crab stamp.
How cute is he with that coffee cup in one hand and a doughnut in the other!
Here are the steps to create this card:

  1. First I stamped my crab in black ink and colored him in with my Zig markers, then cut him out with my Scan n Cut machine and put him aside.
  2. For my background I took a piece of smooth card stock and blended 3 colors of Distress Oxide inks over a wavy patterned stencil. I then stamped my sentiment from the set in the top right corner and added some random caffeine molecules in light blue all over.
  3. Once the background was complete I took a large border die and one slightly smaller to cut out a panel and a frame at the same time. I adhered acetate to the frame portion and built it up the edges with foam tape.
  4. Next step was to skip work and spend the day at the beach🏖☀️⛵️⚓️Well how else was I going to collect sand for my shaker card???
  5. Ok back to the card.....I poured authentic Jupiter, Florida beach sand and some beautiful blue and sparkly clear sequins on to base of card.  I also glued some sequins to the top of the base so they would stay in view when the shaker was shaking!😂

  6. Now cover base with shaker guts in place with prepared acetate backed frame.
  7. Last step was to send that tired crab to the beach for some much needed R & R! I added a sand castle for him to sleep in and a beach ball so he could play with his friends!

  8. Oh yeah one more thing....... shake card for all family members to see and hear until they're annoyed and tell you to go away.🤦🏼‍♀️🙅🏼‍♂️🙅🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♂️

I'm super happy with my little beachy card and I hope you'll
try out a shaker card with some fun elements too!
Tell your boss Lisa said it's ok to skip work and go to the beach!😉

Thanks so much for joining me today!

Easter Bounty and Caffeinated Crab by Martha Lucia

Hi crafters, I have two cards to share with you featuring two of the recently released stamps. Take a look to my first card using the Easter Bounty stamp set:

To create my card I used the masking technique. Let me share with you how make this:
  1. Create the card base using Pool Party card stock. The size of this card is 4-1/4″x11″ with score in 5-1/2″.
  2. Cut a second layer using a stitched rectangle frame.
  3. Take a piece of scrap paper with the same size of the layer that you cut on the before step and die cut from that a heart.
  4. Arrange the die cut piece of scrap paper over the pool party card stock and secure it with masking tape.
  5. Sponge the colors of Distress Ink that you want to use to fill your heart. In my card I used Picked RaspberryWorn Lipstick and Twister Citron.
  6. Remove the scrap paper and keep to be used in another project.
  7. In a separate piece of whisper white card stock, stamp the bunny girl included on the stamp set Easter Bounty with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.
  8. Color the image with alcohol markers or color pencils and fussy cut with the scissors.
  9. Paste the image over the decorated card base using double sided foam tape.
  10. Stamp the sentiment and little details included on the Easter Bounty stamp set over the card using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.
  11. Paste the decorated layer over the card base using double sided foam tape.
  12. Finalize your decoration adding some Jewels or sequins.

For my second card is using the Caffeinated Crab stamp set. To create this card I used Poppy Parade card stock for the card base and Tangerine Tango for the second layer. I just dry embossed the second layer with an embossing folder and pasted it directly over the card base.

Over whisper white card stock stamp the Caffeinated Crab and one of the sentiments included on the stamp set with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Color the image with alcohol markers and fussy cut it with the scissors.

Paste the caffeinated crab with double sided foam tape and the sentiment directly over the decorated card base.  To finalize the card add a die cut leaves on top of the second panel.
You can find these stamps sets HERE in The Rabbit Hole Designs Store and let me tell you, you need to see the entire store because their images are really different and beautiful.

Caffeinated Critters Watercolor Background

Hey, everyone! It's Lynnea Hollendonner and I'm so excited about today's card! I've had it in my head for a while and I'm glad to finally get it out on paper! I love that there are now 7 different critters in the caffeinated line and I just had to use a bunch of them together! The #momlife sentiment from the Caffeinated Cat stamp set was the inspiration behind this card! I can just see this group of mom commiserating together about their daily struggles! Haha!

How - To

  • Stamp Caffeinated Flamingo, Crab, Bee, Cat, Dino, and Octopus onto a piece of watercolor cardstock with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat emboss with clear powder.
  • Color with watercolor markers.
  • Add a flat wash of a light gray watercolor to the background.
  • Die cut panel with a stitched rectangle die.
  • Stamp and white heat emboss #momlife sentiment from the Caffeinated Cat stamp set three times and trim down into strips. Adhere strips with foam tape.
  • Add clear sparkle to the black sentiment strips and black Nuvo Crystal Drops above and below sentiment strips.
