Adulting is Hard

Hello everyone it's Lauren here on the blog today. When I saw this Caffeinated Parrot stamp set I knew I had to have it! So hilarious. I love how one of his eyes is partially closed!

Today's card was created with my oldest son in mind and I cannot wait to give it to him! He would love to own a McCaw someday so I colored up this guy as a Blue and Gold McCaw.

I started this card by stamping the parrot image onto watercolor paper. I then colored the image using Derwent Inktense pencils. I love these water coloring pencils because they dry like ink so there is very little bleeding.

I then used the Clouds In My Coffee stencil to create tops of trees to resemble a jungle. I placed the stencil in the position I wanted then traced it with my pencil. I did that with all the tree layers, then did the coloring. Making sure to alter the shades of green so that they wouldn't look like all one tree.

When I colored the tree layers I also made sure that the layer next to the one I was about to color was dry before I colored it. That keeps the colors from running  together and mixing.

Then I finished off the coloring on the parrot. On the coffee cup I wrote "Tims" to stand for Tim Hortons, our favorite coffee place in Canada.

For the sky, I lightly swept Mermaid Lagoon distress oxide across the top above the trees. When dry I stamped my sentiment. This one is from the Blended Sentiments 2 set.

Finally, I trimmed the panel down using a stitched rectangle die from my stash, backed it with a 4.25x5.5 blue cardstock panel then adhered to my A2 top folding card base.

I am so happy with how this card turned out and I know my son is going to love it! Thanks so much for visiting! Have a great day.
Lauren

Birthday SHAKER card

HELLO!  It's Kelly here. Today I am sharing a shaker card I made using one of the newest caffeinated critters by The Rabbit Hole Designs, "Caffeinated Parrot" with a sentiment from "Blended Sentiments 2".

I started this card by inking a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock with Distress Oxide inks with Cotton Tail Blending Brushes.  I set that to dry and then I stamped the parrot, colored him with matching Copics and cut him out.

I used a circle die to cut the shaker window and strategically stamped the coffee symbol in blue ink on the background panel.  I then built the shaker elements.

I embossed the sentiment in white on black cardstock and adhered the Parrot on the front. I added a bit of shimmer pen to his feathers and gloss to the cup.

No Line Coloring - Caffeinated Parrot

No line coloring, why is it so hard?! Hi friends, Amanda from Pear Blossom Press here again. If you've never tried no line coloring, the idea is to stamp images in pale ink. Then, as you color the images, the outlines will blend in, and seem to fade away. The problem for me, is that the outlines often end up too pale to see as I'm coloring. Pretty soon, my images look nothing like the original stamps.

I love the look though, so I keep trying. And I'm always searching for tips and techniques to make it easier. One such tip from Kathy Racoosin, is to stamp with a slightly darker ink. She recommends a warm golden brown. Today, I decided to give it a try. And look, it worked! Of course, I still need practice, but that's what today's card was designed to be, practice.

For this scene, I stamped the flower from Turtle Botanical, masked it off, and stamped leaves from Pretty in Peony all around. I masked off a few leaves where the Caffeinated Parrot would overlap, then I stamped him. I colored everything with Copic markers, and freehand drew in a few extra leaves and stems to fill in the lower left corner. I also added dark green dots around the foliage.

Once I was happy with the scene, I trimmed the panel down, stamped a green sentiment from Blended Sentiments 2, and foam mounted it to a kraft card base. A few scattered gold gems add sparkle to the scene. Lol, I have to admit, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Compared to my previous no line coloring projects, this one actually looks like the original stamped images (although, I accidentally edited out the steam that is supposed to be rising from his mug). I think the golden brown ink might just be the ticket! I'd love to know what you think. Any good tips to share for no line coloring?

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Head on over to my blog for links to the specific products I used. If you'd like to see more inspiration with the new Caffeinated Parrot, check this out! I'll be back soon with another fun project to share.
